In fact, Ferrari says a buyer inclined to the Italia Spider prefers serene cruising and enjoyable company over a good dynamic flogging to find the car's limits. As such, the new, 2012 Ferrari 458 Italia Spider gets slightly softer suspension tuning, reprogrammed stability control and modified exhaust tuning.
The Ferrari 458 Italia Spider dispenses with the traditional fabric top and instead uses an aluminum lid that flips 180 degrees and disappears under the tonneau cover in 14 seconds. The hardtop does, however, make the convertible 110 pounds heavier than its fixed-roof counterpart.

The coupe can reach a top speed of 202 mph, while the convertible maxes out at 198 mph.
Both feature adaptive magnetorheological dampers, an electronically operated differential and a decaffeinated version of the traction control system used in Ferrari's F1 cars. In the convertible with the turbulence-reducing wind blocker deployed, occupants can hold a "normal" conversation at up to 124 mph.
