How To Paint A Car

How To Paint A Car | priaCarNews.com : New Cars, Car Style, Car Technology, Car Reviews, Car Gadgets, Car Rental Info, Car Insurance, Car Finance - Paint vehicles are mostly professionals jobs. But you can easily paint your vehicle at home and achieve the results that even a professional would be proud!

First and foremost, you must plan out the work. For example, if you have a closed, relatively free of dust held territory to paint your car? Do you own or have access to a good size air compressor, air lines and spray gun? Although not everyone has access to these things, usually spray booth can be rented, as can a syringe is required.

There are several types of paint that can be used, all with their own pros and cons and it is very important that you stick with one type of paint or paint system for the entire job. A chat with your local automotive paint supplier before you start should get you headed in the right direction. Once you have the equipment and materials all sorted now time to start the vehicle.

The decision how far you want to go with the paint you need to be made now. For example, if you want to do a complete color change you will do the engine bay, door jambs and inside the boot area too? Obviously this adds quite a lot of work into jobs and many satisfied just to 'hit out over'. If you decide to go this way just to keep in mind that it will be very clear every time the door is opened or you pick up the hat!

At this stage it is also important to discuss the vehicle with a fine tooth comb (not literally!) To find the dent, rust or stains that can ruin another great paint job. Believe me, there's nothing worse than finding a dent, no matter how small, after you put the top coat. Very frustrating indeed! If you want your paint to look the best you can find the current problems need attention before painting began. The technique used to repair the dented, rusty parts and original paint errors vary and I will discuss some of my other articles.

Once the bodywork is complete the next step in this process is to prepare the surface for primer. How far the original paint was taken back a lot depends on the circumstances. For example, if there are 'crows feet' or cracks visible in the original paint had to be removed right down to the layer affected. But if the original paint surface in reasonably good condition with little in the way of blemishes or errors can usually be lightly sanded surface, sufficient to provide a 'key' to the new primary to bond or adhere.

Once again the method used for sanding or completely remove the original paint varies quite a lot and for more information about this and more information about doing respray from start to finish please see How To Paint A Car.
